Joan I. McCrea, Chair Emeritus

Joan is responsible for the seed that planted and grew into Joseph’s People. It was Joan’s desire to respond to the unemployed in St. Joseph’s Parish that led to the formation of Joseph’s People in 1995.

Joan has a B.S. in Social Sciences from Nyack College and an Ed.M. in Educational Psychology from Temple University. She was an Administrator of Education for the Elwyn Institute and the Director of Education for Sleighton Schools. For more than 20 years, she owned and operated National Technomics, Inc. an entrepreneurial firm which provided human resource management and consulting services to nursing departments at hospitals in the Delaware Valley and across the country.

Joan is currently an Adjunct Faculty member at Immaculata University.

Cheryl C. Spaulding, President
Chapter Leader: Downingtown, Chester County

Cheryl is the co-founder of Joseph’s People and has served as the organization’s president since 2001.

She has a B.A. in Business from Immaculata University. During more than 30 years in business, she has been the founder and owner of several businesses including Equitrust Realty, Ltd. a full service commercial/industrial real estate brokerage firm covering the Philadelphia area; Dolphin Marine Systems, the largest educational marine software company in the world; and Lenape Associates, Inc. which she currently owns and operates with her husband of 46 years, Dr. James T. Spaulding, which provides highly specialized information technology training expertise to corporations and universities.

Cheryl has served on numerous organizations, boards, and task forces including the PA Task Force for Long-Term Unemployment, HIRE ONE Task Force for CCEDC, the Housing Partnership of Chester County, CCIDA Council, The Chester County Board of Realtors and Immaculata College’s Real Estate Advisory Board.

She has lived in Downingtown since 1978 and has a daughter, two sons and eight grandchildren who live in the Chester and Delaware County area.

David Bolz Vice President
Chapter Leader: Eagle, Chester County

Dave is a human resource professional with more than 20 years of experience with public and private organizations, including Lincoln Financial, Morgan Stanley, Exelon and the Village of Park Forest, Illinois. He currently is the Director of Human Resources and HR Site Leader for BlackRock Investments in Wilmington, Delaware where he helps managers and executives deal more effectively with recruiting, talent management, employee relations, change management, career development and diversity issues.

Dave earned his master’s degree in Public Administration from Indiana University and a bachelor’s degree from Canisius College in Buffalo, New York. Dave is an adjunct professor of Business Ethics at Eastern University and the co-author of “The Top Performers Guide to Conflict.”

Lee Ann Paolucci, Secretary

Lee Ann has been the Secretary for Joseph’s People since its founding. For many years she was also the Secretary to the Downingtown St. Joseph’s Chapter. She has been employed at NETZSCH Premier Technologies in Exton, PA since 1994 as an Assistant to the President and Operations Director. She is responsible for processing grinding machine orders and acting as the interface between customers and the engineering and sales departments.

She is married to Dan O’Keefe and has three step children and eight step grandchildren.

Jane Furgas, Treasurer

Jane has been the treasurer of Joseph’s People since 2011. She was responsible for the conversion of manual records to spreadsheets and online banking. Jane keeps track of banking, fund allocations and heating fund distributions. She prepares monthly financial statements, annual board meeting financial reports and non-profit tax reports. A member and volunteer of the Joseph’s People Downingtown chapter since 2004, she assists members with job search strategies and support.

She has more than 30 years of experience as an accountant and currently works as an accountant at Brookdale Senior Living. She has an MBA in Finance from College of Notre Dame, now Notre Dame de Namur University.

Sue Kaiden

Sue has more than 20 years of experience as an executive and management consultant in the health care, information technology and non-profit sectors. In 2003, in response to a community need, Kaiden founded GetWorks, a job search support group for unemployed and underemployed people in Delaware County. A year later, her group became a chapter of Joseph’s People. She served as Vice President of Joseph’s People for ten years. She now does career coaching at her own firm, CareerEdge in Media, PA.

Sue has a MBA from Cornell University and a B.S. in Business from Miami University (Ohio). She is also a certified Myers Briggs (MBTI) and Strong Interest Inventory practitioner.

Rick Schilling

Rick has been a Joseph’s People chapter volunteer since 1996 and board member of Joseph’s People since its inception. He is the founder and owner of Schilling Professional Staffing, Inc., a company providing financial institutions with experienced industry specialists for interim or project assignments.

Rick has a B.S. in Marketing from St. Joseph’s College, an MBA in Finance from Widener University and has completed the Stonier School of Banking program at Rutgers University.

Monsignor Robert T. McManus
Pastor Emeritus of St. Joseph Church, Downingtown, Pa

Monsignor McManus was instrumental in the formation and success of Joseph’s People. He has remained a member of our Board of Directors since its foundation in 1995.

McManus also was a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Air Force and served as an Active Duty Chaplain in the Air Force from 1968 to 1985. He is currently retired and lives in Bryn Mawr, Pa.

Robert Rosania

A nationally recognized training and career development professional, Robert has more than 25 years of experience working with individuals and organizations to improve performance, manage change and develop effective career management strategies. He currently serves as a senior career management consultant with JEVS Human Services in Philadelphia, where he provides individual and group consulting services.

He has written two books “Presentation Basics” and “The Credible Trainer,” and was a major contributor to the book “Improving Performance in Organizations (In Action Series).” Bob has made many media appearances as an expert on career development and work-life balance issues, including the CN8 televised “Your Morning Show,” the NBC news program “All That and More” and many Philadelphia radio programs.

Curt Schroder

From 1995 to 2012, Curt served as a PA State Representative for the 155th District in Chester County. He worked closely with individuals, companies and organizations at all levels to provide services, improve the quality of life and help the business environment in Pennsylvania to thrive. Curt also was the Republican Chairman of the House Gaming Oversight Committee and served on the House Insurance Committee. Prior to that, Curt was the Prothonotary for Chester County.

For more than 10 years, Curt worked closely and diligently with Joseph’s People to secure assistance and programs to support unemployed and underemployed people in Pennsylvania. This work included introducing a bill to provide grants to encourage hiring. After stepping down from the House, Curt joined The Delaware Valley Healthcare Council as Regional Executive and served as Senior Vice President of their Hospital and Health System Association of Pennsylvania. In 2015, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf named Curt Chief Counsel to the House Appropriations Committee in Harrisburg.

Curt received his law degree from Widener University and his undergraduate degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He serves on the Board of Public Health Management Corporation of Philadelphia, is a Member of the Mid-Atlantic AAA Board and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Brandywine Hospital, the Brandywine YMCA and the Transportation Management Association of Chester County. He and his wife live in Downingtown.

Thomas Rhoads

Tom has served as Chairperson for the Chester County PA Workforce Investment Board and is a volunteer speaker and board member of Josephs’ People.

He is an independent consultant who provides executive coaching to individuals and organizations across the United States. He has expertise in career transitions, leadership and organizational development. Over the years he has increased the impact and performance of professionals and executives ranging from small businesses to top Wall Street firms. He has enjoyed long-term relationships as a trusted advisor to large corporate clients such as Exxon, Harley Davidson, Xerox, IBM, Mead Paper, John Deere, General Motors, Pepperidge Farm and General Electric. Tom also supports senior level administrators across academia including the University of Iowa, Franklin and Marshall, Drexel University, and several regional community colleges.

Previously, he worked as a technical consultant, a project manager, an entrepreneur and a business owner. Tom also founded and served as President of an environmental consulting company and was Vice President and Director for an integrated architecture, engineering, construction management and information technology firm.

He began his career in environmental policy research at Duke University and served as a Principal Investigator and Program Manager providing consulting expertise for the U.S. Forest Service, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Defense, and several state agencies.

Janet Stewart Spaulding

Janet received her undergraduate degree in English from LaSalle University and attended the University of Florida where she worked as a teaching assistant. She earned a Master’s degree in English and Publishing from Rosemont College, where her dissertation was on Holocaust Studies. Janet has worked in the fields of Hospitality Management, Banking, and Defense Contracting. Currently, she is an adjunct faculty member at Immaculata University where she has teaches literature, research and writing. She lives in Downingtown with her husband David and their three children.

John Senick
Chapter Leader: Reading, Berks County

John is one of the original founding members of the Joseph’s People Berks Chapter and the lead volunteer there since 2008. He also serves on the Joseph People’s Board of Directors.

Currently employed as the General Sales Manager at Anthony D’Ambriosio Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram in Elverson, Pa., he previously held various management positions including VP of Sales, National Sales Manager and Director of Sales. He has represented banks and also sold software products to auto manufacturers and auto dealer groups across the country.

He has been married to his wife Heidi for 32 years and they have five children. Both John and Heidi grew up in Philadelphia and have lived in the Reading area for more than 25 years. John is Vice President of Starhawks Youth Deck Hockey and also serves on its board. He is the co-founder and head coach of Challenger Basketball Berks, a program for special needs children in Berks County.

Diane Merry
Chapter Leader: Wayne Presbyterian Church, Chester County

Diane is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Thomas Jefferson University, where she runs a research lab studying the molecular basis of hereditary neurodegenerative diseases. She received her undergraduate degree from The College of William and Mary, an M.S. from the University of Texas in Houston and a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. Diane also teaches medical, graduate and pharmacy students at Thomas Jefferson University. From 2005 to 2012, Diane was the Director of the Ph.D. Program in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Diane lives in Malvern with her husband and two children. She is a long-time member of Wayne Presbyterian Church, where she currently serves as a deacon and is a member of the Congregational Care Committee through which she and her husband coordinated a Caregiver’s Support Group.

John F. Colgan
Chapter Leader: West Grove, Chester County

John has extensive and diversified experience with a background in insurance, financial advisory services, as well as eldercare and healthcare. Since 2012, John has functioned as the Director of Marketing and Client Services Representative for Senior Secure Inc. and TFG Wealth Management, a wealth management and insurance company where he educated and served retirees and pre-retirees in Pa., Del., and Md. For two years, John was a sales and marketing advisor with A Place for Mom, a national organization focused on assisting and educating families about senior care options. For 13 years, John served as an Audit Manager and Corporate Compliance Liaison at Genesis Healthcare, a $5.5 billion long-term care company.

John graduated from Villanova University with a major in Accountancy and a minor in Communication Arts. He is a life and health insurance agent licensed in Pa. and is pursuing his series 65 license. He lives in southern Chester County with his wife Roseann, son Matt, daughter Lexi and Bichon Poodle Nova. He is extremely active in his church as a lector and fundraiser. John enjoys traveling with his family, reading, playing ice hockey and golfing.

Ann Marie Barr
Chapter Leader: West Grove, Chester County

A graduate of Pennsylvania State University, Ann’s background was originally in education. She lived in western Pennsylvania, Florida and New Jersey before settling in Chester County. For more than 20 years she has overseen human service advocacy, support groups, and immediate need assistance for Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary parish in West Grove.

Ann’s role increased in 2006 when Catholic Social Services enlisted her as parish outreach coordinator and later as intake case manager. One of the outreach meetings centered on introducing more parishes to Joseph’s People which led to the start of the Joseph’s People West Grove chapter.

Dan Willard
Chapter Leader: Aldan Union, Delaware County

Dan serves as the coordinator for Career Crossroads, a Joseph’s People Chapter at Aldan Union Church. He also is on the Board of Directors for Joseph’s People.

Dan graduated from Drexel University with a B.S. in marketing and enjoyed a successful sales and management career in the information technology field with IBM, Texas Instruments, and Digital Equipment Corporation. He also owned and operated his own limousine service for several years.

Arthur M. McGuire
Chapter Leader: Springfield, Delaware County  

During his 19-year career at The Philadelphia Evening Bulletin, Arthur was a rewriteman, spent three years writing editorials for the editorial page and was the editor of the Op/Ed Page when the newspaper went out of business in 1982. He currently operates McGuide Publications, which publishes environmental litigation journals for attorneys (McGuirepub.com). Art was ordained a deacon in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia in 1997.


Barb and Paul Stoyell-Mulholland
Chapter Leaders: Media, Delaware County

Barb and Paul both earned a Master’s degree in Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University. Paul has more than 20 years of experience in the human resources and labor relations fields and is currently the Senior Manager of Employee Relations, East Region, for The Boeing Co. For the past 16 years, Barb has been at home full-time with their four children and uses her skills in facilitation and human resources in community and diocesan programs. She is currently teaching in the business department at Cabrini College. Barb and Paul are two of the founding members of the St. Mary Magdalen Employment Network, which became a Joseph’s People chapter in 2011.

Ernest W. Russom III
Chapter Leader: St. Laurence, Delaware County

Ernie is the Executive Director of The Westview Associates, a firm that provides accounting, finance and human resource staffing solutions in the eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware regions. His clients vary from start-up organizations to Fortune 100 companies. He provides staffing solutions ranging from senior finance to accounting executives to support staff.

Ernie has a B.S. in Business Logistics from Penn State University and an MBA from Temple University. His career began within the financial services industry. Some of his accomplishments include being a senior member of PNC Bank’s Credit Quality Assurance team that participated in numerous bank and portfolio acquisitions, working as the compliance officer for a $3.8 billion consumer loan portfolio managed by EDS, and acting as the author of a risk mitigation product for the financial service industry which was featured on the front page of USA Today.

Ernie’s community service includes being a Board Member of Temple’s Fox School of Business Alumni Association, the Founder and Leader of Metro Philly Job Search Group, Co-Founder of the Mary Magdalen Job Search Group, Co-Chair of Joseph’s People of Central Delco, as well as a “Friend of The FENG” (Financial Executive Networking Group).

Ernie lives in suburban Philadelphia with his wife Lynn. They have two sons: Nelson, a construction engineer and Perry, a multi-media news reporter at WPRI in Providence, RI.

Nancy Boak
Chapter Leader: Hatfield, Montgomery County

Nancy took an early retirement from Prudential Financial in 2007 where she enjoyed her work as Manager and Supervisory Principal of the Mutual Fund Operations Group. Since retiring she has obtained her certification as a Professional Coach. Nancy uses her coaching skills to help individuals identify barriers to living the life they desire.

In July 2009, Nancy and her husband Ron began the Joseph People-Hatfield Chapter to bring hope and support to the unemployed and underemployed in their surrounding communities. Nancy is also active in the Beginning Experience International organization, which serves those who are recovering from the loss of a spouse through death or divorce. Nancy served as an officer, board member, retreat coordinator and facilitator to helping those in the grief process. She loves to sing and has sung with several choirs as well as a soloist for St. Maria Goretti Parish in Hatfield where she is an active communicant and serves on several committees.

Suzanne Curran
Chapter Leader: Huntington Valley, Montgomery County

Suzanne is the owner of SC Staffing & Consulting which places both temporary and permanent employees in the financial, administrative and human resources industries. Her company has won numerous awards. She previously worked in the banking industry for 20 years.

A LaSalle University graduate, she lives in Philadelphia with her husband and son.

Jack Shaw
Chapter Leader: Pittsburgh, Allegheny County

Jack worked as a Community Relations Administrator for Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield for 14 years where he coordinated the company’s community programs and projects. He served on boards and committees for The United Way, The Alzheimer’s Association, The Boy Scouts of America, The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, The Three Rivers Regatta and the Western Pennsylvania Olympic Committee.

Jack was also co-coordinator for HOPE Ministry (Helping Others Pursue Employment), a faith-based outreach program for unemployed and underemployed people before he started the Joseph’s People chapter at St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Pittsburgh.

Phil DeMarra
Member Representative: Joseph’s People, GetWorks, Media, Delaware County

Phil has attended Joseph’s People meetings in Media, Reading, and Downingtown for several years and assists the leadership teams of all three chapters.

He has worked in the medical device manufacturing industry (anesthesia systems and patient monitors) as a Senior Test/Quality Engineer. One of his accomplishments was creating a patent for a steam sterilizer water recovery system that enhances operation, reduces water consumption and dramatically increases system efficiency. In addition, Phil was an Executive Board member for the Pennsylvania Child ID program (PA Chip) which offers photos, videos, DNA kits, and fingerprints for the parents of young children or Alzheimer’s patients. For 10 years, he was a District Chairman for Chester County.

Donnamarie T. Bates
Member Representative: Joseph’s People, Hatfield, Montgomery County

Donnamarie first attended the Hatfield Chapter of Joseph’s People after she was laid off from her interior decorating position. After becoming familiar with the group members and their stories, she took on a leadership role.

Her career started at Prudential Insurance Company where Donnamarie was responsible for organizing community service events, establishing volunteer networking, negotiating employee discounts, soliciting donations and securing advertising. While raising her three children, she was actively involved with fundraising for the parochial schools her children attended. She attended Temple University which led her to start her own interior design business.

Currently, she is working at J. Reckner and Associates Medical Market Research Company as a Medical Specialist Recruiter. She also works part time, teaches adult education workshops at a high school and is studying business administration at Montgomery County Community College.

John A. Zukowski

John is a communications specialist and journalist who writes press releases and promotes Joseph’s People events to local and national media. He also advocates for the media to give more coverage to the unemployed, the underemployed and the long-term unemployed.

He holds a B.A. in English from Rutgers University and a master’s degree in Journalism from Temple University. He is an award-winning journalist who worked for daily and weekly newspapers in Pennsylvania. Starting his career as a municipal reporter, he later worked as a features writer and editor where he did everything from interviewing celebrities to investigative journalism. Currently he works as a contract employee writing and editing print and electronic copy for companies and non-profits in the Philadelphia area. He also writes and edits the web site spiritualpopculture.com.

Liam Dempsey

Liam Dempsey is a communications designer working in both print and web media. Fascinated by the thought of distributing ideas on screen and on paper, Liam has more than 15 years of experience as a marketing consultant, designer and copywriter. Liam is the owner of a small international communications design consultancy called LBDesign. LBDesign works with businesses, charities and more across the US, UK and beyond.

Ever exploring life from the less-considered angle, Liam writes for and serves as editor of the quirky blog, chickenmonkeydog.com.

Active in the WordPress community, Liam co-founded the Philly ‘burbs WordPress Meetup in 2012 and continues to serve as its organizer. He is also a co-organizer of WordCamp Philly (2013-present) and was a co-organizer of WordCamp US in 2015 and 2016.
