About Us

Joseph’s People, Ltd. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation to serve the unemployed and underemployed people in our community. We are run entirely by volunteers and have no paid staff.

We are non-denominational and ecumenical. It does not matter where you live, what religion you are or are not, how long you have been out of work, or what kind of work you need. All are welcome. Since 1995, we have helped more than 5,000 people to recover from their job loss. We presently have more than 1,800 members in 10 chapters in five counties in the Philadelphia area and one chapter in Pittsburgh.

Our goal is to help you find a job that is a family-supporting position with benefits. We will provide you with friendship, understanding and a support network while you go through the transition to new employment.

There is never a charge for anything Joseph’s People provides or events we hold. Everything we do for you is FREE.

An important part of Joseph’s People are meetings that take place in each of our chapters. (Find a local chapter.)

Our meetings include programs and expert speakers that will give you current information about the job market and the most effective job search methods. Topics include subjects such as interviewing, resumes, networking, cutting costs, LinkedIn, identifying your best skills and much more. There are also hands-on sessions including mock job interviews, resume workshops, and rehearsals of “elevator speeches” — so any job seeker can make a pitch in 30 seconds or less in any networking situation.

You will also find at our chapter meetings friendship and understanding from others who know exactly what you are going through. It is a place you can speak freely about both your hopes and your frustrations.

The meetings also provide job seekers opportunities to network. Members and volunteers regularly exchange contacts and information to help one another. It’s an atmosphere where you will find both support and valuable information.

While you are in transition to a new job, you may run into hurdles. At Joseph’s People, we have developed resources and access to resources to help you.

At your first meeting you’ll receive a free copy of our publication “The Journey,” written specifically for our members by experts in their fields. It provides direction on how to move forward from the day you lose your job to the day you obtain your new one. We also have our Blue Resource Guide, the combined wisdom of thousands of our graduates who have found places to get help. It covers how to get assistance for financial problems, medical insurance, food, clothing, and more.

We’ll tell you how to gain access to our online groups where members provide information, network with each other, and share job leads. There are also resources to connect with graduates and our friends in corporations and organizations throughout the area. And we’ll add you to your e-mail list where we regularly distribute job postings — in 2014, we sent out more than 2,000.

And we throw great parties! Every year we hold a summer picnic and a Christmas party. They’re also free.

So whether you’re recently unemployed or have been unemployed for an extended time (yes, any time seems too long!) please attend one of our meetings. As with everything at Joseph’s People, the meetings are free. You don’t have to reserve a space or RSVP ahead of time. Just show up. You’ll find that we’ll do our best to help put you on the road to working again.
